Deloitte recruiters receive thousands of applications each recruiting season. To ensure your Deloitte consulting resume stands out, it’s important to highlight experiences, achievements, and attributes that prove you can thrive in their client-centric, fast-paced environment. 

Deloitte recruiters look for candidates with consulting or related industry experience, a strong academic record, analytical and problem-solving skills, leadership and teaming abilities, and proven quantifiable results. If you don’t have previous consulting experience, relevant skills from other internships or school experiences also count.

Your Deloitte resume should be concise, neatly formatted, and one page long. Use an easy-to-read black font like Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial, and avoid using any graphics or images. Your goal is to present a resume that makes a strong first impression within a few seconds. 

As a former consulting recruiter, I’ll outline tips in the next few sections for what we look for when reviewing resumes.

What are Recruiters Looking for in a Deloitte Consulting Resume?

Important Sections to Include in Your Deloitte Consulting Resume

Your Deloitte resume should have 5 key sections:

Personal Information

  • Include your full name, the city and state in which you reside, your phone number, your email address, and a hyperlink to your LinkedIn profile

Education

  • The education section should include your higher education universities, locations, dates, and degrees in reverse chronological order. We recommend including test scores, GPA, notable awards or scholarships, and relevant coursework. Even if your GPA and test scores aren’t stellar, you will be required to submit them in your application. Leaving these scores off of your resume can raise questions. 
  • When deciding where to place the education section on your resume, consider these recommendations:
    • If you are an experienced hire, include your professional experience first.
    • If you attend a “target” school (undergraduate or graduate) and are participating in on-campus recruiting, include your professional experience first. You are competing with students from your school whose resumes will all start with the same school information. Putting your professional experience first can help you stand out. 
    • If you attend a non-target school, include the education section first.
Important Sections to Include in Your Deloitte Consulting Resume

Professional Experience

  • A Deloitte resume should list your relevant professional experience in reverse chronological order. Internships should be included if you are still pursuing your degree and if the experience is relevant to consulting. 
  • Under each professional experience, include 3 to 4 bullet points that highlight the measurable results you achieved in that job. 
    • We call this “XYZ format.” For example:  Improved customer retention (X) by 20% (Y) through implementing a new client engagement strategy (Z).
    • If you can’t quantify an experience, don’t include it. 

Leadership & Extracurricular Activities 

  • This section allows you to showcase your achievements beyond the office or classroom. Include clubs or organizations where you had a leadership position and made an impact. If you have quantifiable results to share from these experiences, list those in bullet points, following the “XYZ format.” 
  • If the experience is over 5 years old, consider omitting it unless it is very relevant.

Skills & Interests 

  • Include technical, consulting-related skills, certifications, languages, and personal interests that make you stand out. Soft skills, such as “analytical,” should not be included as these should be displayed throughout your bullet points.

Incorporating Deloitte’s guiding principles in your resume can show that you understand and embody the identity, behavior, and decision-making of its employees and the organization.

Let’s take a look at what Deloitte’s 5 values are and examples of how to embed them in your Deloitte consulting resume:

“Lead the Way”

Deloitte’s Value: “We are not only leading the profession, but also reinventing it for the future. We are also committed to creating opportunity and leading the way to a more sustainable world.”

Have you successfully led a team in a school club or founded your own company? Deloitte wants to know the results of your leadership and how you rallied a team towards a common goal.

Resume Example: Paid for 50% of my college tuition costs by designing, coding, and marketing an app to connect users to local businesses.

“Serve with Integrity”

Deloitte’s Value: “By acting ethically and with integrity, we have earned the trust of clients, regulators and the public. Upholding that trust is our single most important responsibility.”

Have you supported a colleague or peer during a challenging time? How did you handle this situation to minimize disruption, while supporting your peer?

Resume Example: Ensured on-time project delivery for a major client by reassigning tasks and supporting a colleague during a personal crisis.

“Foster Inclusion”

Deloitte’s Value: “We are at our best when we foster an inclusive culture and embrace diversity in all forms. We know this attracts top talent, enables innovation and helps deliver well-rounded client solutions.”

Deloitte is asking you for XYZ format. Show that you can deliver quantifiable results in any scenario. 

Resume Example: Identified $3 million in savings for a real estate client by collaborating with 3 other global locations to coordinate and streamline supply chains.

Deloitte Consulting Resume Example + Why It Works

Deloitte Monitor Example - Master's

Before continuing on, reflect on why this is a good Deloitte consulting resume and what you lessons you can apply to your own resume. 

It was successful for a few key reasons:

  • The writer incorporates measurable results through “XYZ format” in each bullet point, so the reader is not left guessing about this candidate’s achievements. 
  • This resume is neatly formatted and doesn’t include unnecessary fluff. Every word provides value and helps the candidate stand out. 
  • This candidate made the most of their Skills & Interests section, including technical, consulting-related skills, various languages, and diverse interests.

Differences Between the Deloitte Monitor Resume vs. the Deloitte Advisory Resume

While the overall resume writing strategy for applying to Deloitte Monitor and Deloitte Advisory shouldn’t vary much, it’s key to tailor your resume to reflect the specific skills and experiences relevant to each division.

Deloitte Monitor Resume

A Deloitte Monitor resume should emphasize strategic thinking and market analysis. The focus area of this group is strategy consulting so your resume should include examples of strategic analysis, problem-solving, business model innovation, client-facing engagements, and project management. 

Here’s an example of what a good Deloitte Monitor resume would say:

  • Delivered a 30% revenue increase for a Fortune 500 company by leading a team to conduct a comprehensive market analysis, identifying changes in buyer preferences leading to growth opportunities.

Deloitte Advisory Resume

A Deloitte Advisory resume should highlight risk management, financial advisory, and operational improvement. Their focus areas are risk management, financial advisory, and consulting. Include examples of risk assessment and management, financial planning and analysis, regulatory compliance, operational improvement, data analytics, and technical expertise. 

A resume bullet example for this type of Deloitte resume is:

  • Reduced potential financial losses by 20% for a global corporation by conducting a comprehensive risk assessment and implementing mitigation strategies.

4 Mistakes to Avoid on Your Deloitte Resume

1. Do Not Overuse Technical Jargon

Utilizing industry jargon and acronyms can make your Deloitte resume difficult to read. If you plan to refer to an acronym multiple times throughout the document, spell it out first and include the acronym in parentheses. It’s risky to assume the resume reader knows what you are referring to, so aim for crystal-clear communication. 

  • Example to Avoid: “Leveraged Agile SCRUM methodologies to synergize cross-functional teams in the ideation, iteration, and deployment of a scalable SaaS solution utilizing CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native microservices architecture.”
  • Clearer Alternative: “Led cross-functional teams to develop and launch a cloud-based software solution, improving deployment speed and overall efficiency.”

2. Trim Irrelevant Information

Your Deloitte resume should only include relevant and necessary information about your candidacy. Leave off experiences unrelated to consulting skills. While you may have experience with various software languages, only include consulting-relevant tools. 

Also, don’t include a summary section. This section is generally redundant to what is already covered in the rest of your resume and takes up too much space.

  • Example to Avoid: “Worked as a barista during college.”
  • Clearer Alternative: Leveraged strong customer service and communication skills to manage high-volume client interactions as a coffee barista; ensured quick resolution of issues in a fast-paced environment.

3. Avoid Listing Tasks

If your bullet points aren’t quantifiable, exclude them. Don’t simply list out your duties, rather, explain what value those actions delivered. 

  • Example to Avoid: “Responsible for conducting market research and analyzing data.”
  • Clearer Alternative: “Increased client revenue by 20% by conducting in-depth market research and analysis that identified key trends in client needs.

4. Double Check For Typos

Don’t be the candidate who gets rejected for having typos or grammatical errors. Proofread your resume a few times, then ask a trusted peer or mentor to review it.
