The McKinsey Forward Program is a 10-week online learning initiative that equips early career professionals with the essential tools and skills they need to succeed in a constantly evolving workplace. It is a free program for eligible participants in over 100 countries.
The McKinsey Forward program equips participants with important skills, such as adaptability, effective communication, problem-solving, and new ways of working in a digital landscape. These skills are crucial in helping young professionals work efficiently within teams and adapt to modern challenges. Additionally, participants also focus on building leadership skills and putting them into practice. There are 2 parts to the program:
- Core Skills: The Core Skills level comprises of 20 hours of interactive content through digital courses over 10 weeks. It is self-paced, with participants encouraged to commit 2 hours per week, which is reasonable to fit in with a job. At this stage, learners are introduced to core professional skills such as adaptability, effective communication, and problem-solving.
- Network: After completing the Core Skills portion, participants have access to the McKinsey Forward Network, which has exclusive access to further learning and networking events. This section is designed to foster global connections and continuous learning among program alumni. This network is a supportive community where participants can share knowledge and seek valuable guidance throughout their careers. Alumni can also give back to the Forward community by volunteering as ambassadors. This role allows them to support new learners, engage in outreach, and collaborate on projects, thus contributing to the learner community and driving the program’s future.
The McKinsey Forward program isn’t limited to only people who want to work in consulting. Many participants join from a variety of industries, such as IT services, graphic design, fashion, human resources, and marketing. With a global network of over 450,000 alumni, Forward has gained recognition as a valuable credential among diverse sectors. Alumni feedback reflects the program’s positive impact: 94% of alumni report increased confidence in their skills, and 75% have experienced career growth within just 2 months of completing the program.
How to Apply and Who is Eligible
Prospective candidates can apply through the McKinsey website. Applicants are asked to provide basic information about their educational qualifications (level, area of focus), professional background (work experience, employment status), and motivation for applying to the McKinsey Forward program.
Here is the eligibility criteria:
- Reside in one of the countries where the Forward program is available – currently, 100 countries, including the United States, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Middle East (Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen), Pakistan, Europe, and Africa
- Currently employed, self-employed, or between jobs with previous work experience
- Have less than 5 years of work experience (or) have more than 5 years of work experience without directly managing any colleagues
- Completed secondary education or high school degree
- Proficient in the English language
