An Overview of Connect to ClearView Healthcare Partners
  • Opportunity Assessment for a Novel Drug Device: Identify the key differentiators for the proposed product, understand how the product will be viewed by physicians (e.g., is it beneficial for their patients), size the potential market, and develop a revenue forecast to inform a private equity investment in the medical device.
  • Go-To-Market Strategy for Companion Diagnostics Device: Guide a pharmaceutical company to choose the right diagnostic tool to pair with their new therapy by outlining key product requirements for market acceptance, exploring best practices for partnership with diagnostic companies for product development and commercialization, and evaluating the business impact.

What is the Connect to ClearView Program?

What is the Connect to ClearView Program?

Connect to ClearView is a 3-day immersion program (typically held during the spring) designed to give advanced degree candidates an exclusive view of what it’s like to work at ClearView and in the broader life science strategy consulting industry. The program is usually held at their headquarters location in Boston. ClearView is piloting other program locations, such as London.

The program is specifically targeted at candidates pursuing advanced degrees (Ph.D. or M.D.) or post-docs focused on the life sciences. Like other similar programs (e.g., Bridge to BCG, McKinsey Insight, and Bain ADvantage), the program gives candidates with a strong academic and research background an opportunity to break into consulting.

During the program, participants engage in simulated case studies that mirror the real-life consulting engagements ClearView handles. You will get the opportunity to develop a market entry strategy for a new drug, assess the market size for a medical device, or determine the competitive positioning of a new technology.

Participants are exposed to all aspects of consulting at ClearView, such as team brainstorming sessions, problem-solving methodologies, primary and secondary research, writing presentations, and storyline development. Participants also get the opportunity to network with current ClearView consultants at different career levels and learn more about the firm’s culture.

Benefits of Attending the Connect to ClearView Program

  • Understand if Life Science Consulting is Right For You: Connect to ClearView offers a risk-free trial run. The program provides an environment to explore whether the pace and nature of consulting, particularly in the life sciences sector, align with your skills and interests.
  • Boost Your Chances of Landing a Full-Time Role: Connect to ClearView participants may be invited for a final round of interviews after the program, so it is important to put your best foot forward and make a strong impression during the program.
  • Networking Opportunities: Apart from learning and problem-solving, Connect to ClearView gives participants the opportunity to build relationships. You will interact with consultants at different stages of their careers. This gives you a chance to ask questions, get advice, and create advocates for you within the firm, giving you a potential advantage in the future selection process (e.g., for a full-time role). Also, you never know who you might see again, especially if you work in the healthcare industry.
  • Firsthand Insight into the ClearView Culture: Meeting current employees and experiencing ClearView’s environment and workplace culture can help determine if the firm is a good fit for you.
How to Apply to Connect to ClearView

How to Apply to Connect to ClearView

The application process for the Connect to ClearView program begins during spring and has two deadlines: February (first round) and March (second round). It is better to apply sooner rather than later, as all spots may be filled by applicants from the first round.

Here’s a quick overview of the application process:

  • Application Requirements: Applicants must submit their Consulting Resume and highlight their offices of choice (for the full-time consultant role).
  • Timeline: Shortlisted candidates will be notified within 1 week of the application to schedule interviews.
  • Interview Process: The process involves 2 interviews, similar to the standard interview process at ClearView: a case interview (life sciences-based) and a behavioral interview. ClearView has practice cases that can give you a sense of what to expect and prepare for your interview.

Both interviews last 30 minutes each. The interviews test your ability to think critically and solve complex business issues, but at the same time to understand your interest in the program, ClearView as a firm, and what you are looking forward to gaining from the program.

4 Tips On Crafting Your Application to Connect to ClearView

4 Tips On Crafting Your Application to Connect to ClearView

1. Demonstrate Interest in Life Sciences and Consulting

ClearView looks for candidates with a dedicated interest in both life sciences and consulting. In your application, highlight your background and experiences that have fueled your interest in life sciences and how you see consulting as a way to apply your expertise to solve industry challenges. Be specific about why life science consulting, in particular, appeals to you and how it aligns with your career goals. You don’t need to have worked directly in consulting before, but you need to articulate why consulting is what you want to do.

2. Tailor Your Resume to Highlight Relevant Skills

While you may not have direct consulting experience, it is critical to highlight transferable skills that consultants use daily, such as research, data analysis, teamwork, communication, and leadership, which are all skills you likely already have as an advanced degree candidate. For example, if you have worked on a Ph.D. project that involved analyzing data and drawing conclusions, make that a focal point.

3. Leverage Networking

Connecting with current ClearView employees (particularly consultants who have come through the program) can help you better understand the process, and gain insights about the firm and its culture. This will help you craft a strong response to one of the most common interview questions: “Why ClearView?” Building these early relationships can also help create connections within the firm, giving you a potential advantage in recruiting for full-time.

4. Practice Specific Types of Case Interviews

Nailing the case interview is as critical for the immersion program as it is for a regular, full-time role. The process involves life sciences case interviews, which, while similar to traditional case interviews, focus on life science clients and industry-specific problems. Be sure to read and practice life science cases, and go through past case studies of ClearView.
